Missenden Abbey real wedding
Mr and Mrs Sibley’s big day was the absolute epitome of wedding days. From the first enquiry all the way to gallery delivery, these two just oozed enthusiasm and for their photos and their big day itself. In this featured post we’re covering all things from how to nail your smoke bomb photos to how you can ensure to get a photo with everyone at your wedding. So read along and hear some more about why this day will be forever etched as one to remember.
So the big day finally arrived on the 11th May and the weather gods were certainly on our side. The Pettitt Photography team of three (Lucy, James and Sian) headed north to Missenden Abbey, Great Missenden to capture both Caroline and Mathew getting ready for their nuptials. The pair decided to host their whole day, from getting ready until carriages at the end, at the same venue. It’s always handy when this happens because it means that time spent travelling between sites is instead spent taking more photos or filming more content. Lucy headed off to be with Caroline whilst Sian went to capture Mathew and his groom’s party. It was a seamless morning which lead to the ceremony in the beautiful stained glass garden room at Missenden Abbey. Adorned with flowers from Hire Heaven, the purple and green design complimented the space so beautifully. After the ceremony the guests were kept entertained with giant lawn games courtesy of AJ Events and array of canapés from the venue whilst they basked in the Spring sunshine.
Caroline and Mathew’s couples session was incredible- they were so excited to have these photos and went along with all of our ideas to create a really varied and classic selection of photos for their final gallery. We had smoke bombs, a beautiful landscape and a lot of fun to create a gallery that was certainly worthy to be printed in Vogue! After all of this excitement it was into the marquee for the speeches and wedding breakfast and ultimately to the first dance and epic party.
This gallery really highlights how much fun we had capturing this beautiful day so check it out below!

Your pre-wedding session at your wedding venue? Yes or no?
Caroline and Mathew thought it would be a great idea to have their pre-wedding session at their wedding venue, Missenden Abbey. At first they had some reservations that they were worried that the two albums would look the same but it didn’t take long for that to not be a concern anymore. The two sessions were done at two different times of the year which made the gardens of the Abbey look very different. The biggest difference that you can see though is that the pair didn’t don their suit and gown for their pre-wedding session so the photos automatically look completely different. What do you think? Would you have your pre-wedding photoshoot at your wedding venue?

Smoke bombs done right!
Oh those smoke bomb photos! That is how it’s done! Caroline and Mathew opted for a vibrant purple to match their wedding colours and doesn’t it just work perfectly? My top tips for smoke bomb photos: the more the merrier and keep moving! The smoke bombs can very quickly take over one area which is why it’s best to do smoke bomb photos when you’re moving or walking- perfectly demonstrated by the bridal party below. The biggest tip of them all is to just forget about the photos and enjoy it! How often do you get the chance to let off a smoke bomb and dance through it with your besties?

Table photos
When Caroline saw this trend on Instagram she just knew she had to do it at her wedding. The aim is to have a photo with each table at your reception but make it fun. We teamed up with the DJ at CS events LTD to choose an upbeat and dance worthy song. He then announced each table one by one to run, skip and boogie onto the dance floor to have their own photo with the bride and groom. My goodness this was a hilarious few minutes and the photos are a fantastic memory of everyone that was there on your big day.
